  1. Amazing Soup

My family just made the soup last night and it was amazing. My only suggestion is to add more taco seasoning. There was enough left over to freeze for this coming winter.

  2. Very tasty and easy to prepare

My family is trying out various Thrive samples to determine what to store in quantity for emergency preparedness, so this was an experiment.

The Taco Soup Gift Basket was attractively packaged and came with a recipe card. I prepared it according to the directions with two exceptions: I soaked the beans overnight and cooked them (covered on low) for 1-1/2 hours on the stove top because I don't have a CrockPot as recommended in the directions, and I omitted the 1/2 tsp of salt when cooking the beans. (Adding salt before beans are cooked causes them to crack and break up.)

(I found the directions to cook the beans for 4 hours in a CrockPot a bit curious because the electricity is often out in a true emergency situation.)

I followed the recipe suggestion and served the soup with grated cheddar cheese, sour cream, and tortilla chips. We also added a little hot sauce to individual taste.

My family enjoyed it very much. I will definitely make it again. I think I may try adding a couple of beef bouillon cubes to the water with the tomato powder and spices next time just to give the TVP a little flavor boost.

The recipe didn't specify how many people it was meant to serve, but I would estimate it made 6 - 8 generous servings.
